June 17, 2021Native Ground Coffee Donates Profits for MMIW Cause
On May 4, the Biden administration proclaimed May 5 as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day, which recognizes the efforts of activists who have been working since 2017 to raise awareness about the growing instances of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (known as MMIW or MMIWG) throughout Indian Country and honors their lives.
Native Ground Coffee, a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member coffee business, donated all profits on May 5 to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
“We were fortunate enough to raise $1,017 in coffee sales,” said Winter Wood of Native Ground Coffee. “It’s been our mission to help create awareness [about] Indigenous issues and give back to our Native communities.”
